What's this?

This is an anonymous web proxy, which routes the traffic through Tor (“The Onion Router”). It's free to use but comes with absolutely no warranty.
There can still be requests which may not be routed through this proxy, due to the impossibility to cover all eventualities of scripting in the web proxy code.

Notice: It's not possible to access Tor Websites (.onion) with this web proxy for legal reasons.

What's a Proxy?

In computer networking, a proxy server is a server application that acts as an intermediary between a client requesting a resource and the server providing that resource. It improves privacy, security, and possibly performance in the process.

Instead of connecting directly to a server that can fulfill a request for a resource, such as a file or web page, the client directs the request to the proxy server, which evaluates the request and performs the required network transactions. This serves as a method to simplify or control the complexity of the request, or provide additional benefits such as load balancing, privacy, or security. Proxies were devised to add structure and encapsulation to distributed systems. A proxy server thus functions on behalf of the client when requesting service, potentially masking the true origin of the request to the resource server.

Is the data being encrypted?

The Data transferred between the proxy and your browser is encrypted via 256 bit SSL encryption. The data going through the Tor network is also encrypted. The last part (between Tor Exit Node and the Website being visited) is encrypted, if the URL begins with “https://” - otherwise this part may be unencrypted.
